Paws for a Child is Paws for a Future: Your Donation Can Transform a Child's Life Forever

Meet Joy! – A Light in Every Room

Joy is a bright, loving five-year-old whose smile has a way of lighting up every room she enters. Her name couldn’t be more fitting—she radiates happiness and brings it to everyone around her. Life lights her up, and she reflects that joy wherever she goes.

Some of Joy’s favorite things? Puppies, snacks, water—and jumping. Especially jumping.

Whether she’s in the backyard, the living room, or her playroom, you’ll find Joy on a trampoline. In fact, her parents, Jodi and Matt, make sure there’s a trampoline wherever they go. Because for Joy, jumping isn’t just play—it’s pure, expressive delight. She quite literally jumps for joy.

But behind her sweet grin is a rare condition — Rett Syndrome, a neurological disorder that affects her ability to walk, speak, and use her hands.

Everyday tasks are a challenge. But Joy and her family face them with incredible courage.

Now, we’re rallying behind Joy in a very special way. Joy needs your help to gain a little more safety, comfort, and independence.

Why a Service Dog?

A highly trained service dog can be life-changing for Joy, offering both practical assistance and emotional support. These dogs are trained to alert caregivers when help is needed, provide comfort during moments of sensory overload, and assist with balance and mobility.

They also play a crucial role in reducing anxiety and meltdowns while offering an added layer of safety through tracking and tethering. Despite their tremendous impact, the cost of a fully trained service dog exceeds $30,000 — a significant expense that is not covered by insurance.

How You Can Help

Your donation — whether it's $5 or $5000 — goes directly toward covering the costs of training, placement, equipment, and care for a service dog specially matched to Joy.

Together, we can give her more than just a dog.
We can give her a best friend. A lifeline. A little more freedom.

When you’re raising a child with Rett syndrome, every moment is layered with love, challenge, and constant adaptation. That’s the reality Matt and Jodi Piscatelli live every day with their daughter, Joy.

Because of Rett syndrome, Joy is nonverbal, has limited use of her hands, and struggles with balance and motor coordination. Tasks like eating at a restaurant or playing at the park require layers of planning and support that most families don’t even think twice about.

But Matt and Jodi see something beautiful on the horizon—a future where Joy walks beside a specially trained service dog who offers her comfort, regulation, and just a little more freedom.

"One of the ways we envision this working is for the dog to be a loving, friendly partner that provides Joy with more independence—and helps soothe her when she’s dysregulated.”
– Matt, Joy's Dad
“She’s five now and doesn’t mind holding our hand. But as she grows, her desire for independence will grow too. A dog can give her space from us while still keeping her safe—just like any other child wants.”
– Jodi, Joy's Mom

Dear Friends,One year ago, we lost a true hero and beloved friend. On June 24, 2023, Samantha’s devoted diabetic alert service dog Moonpie passed away after eight years of service. Today we honor Moonpie’s remarkable life and the unwavering bond she shared with Samantha. This day of remembrance is a tribute and celebration of Moonpie who was a loyal companion, touched many hearts and along with Samantha raised awareness of the incredible impact service dogs have in the lives of those in need. Moonpie dedicated her life to keeping Samantha safe, alerting her to changes in her blood sugar levels. Samantha could always count on Moonpie, which allowed her to lead a life outside of her disability. Moonpie was more than a service dog, she was a guardian, a confidant and a symbol of hope and resilience. The bond they had was a testament to the profound connection that can exist between humans and animals. As we remember Moonpie, we also aim to raise awareness and support for Project 2 Heal, the nonprofit organization that brought Moonpie and Samantha together. Project 2 Heal is dedicated to breeding, nurturing, and training service dogs, giving more people the chance to experience the life-changing support these incredible animals provide. In Moonpie’s honor, we invite you to join us in celebrating her legacy by sharing your stories, memories, and support. Your engagement will not only pay tribute to Moonpie but also help raise funds for Project 2 Heal, ensuring that more service dogs can be placed with those who need them most. Your contributions, whether through donations, spreading the word, or simply sharing your stories, will make a significant impact. Thank you for helping us remember Moonpie and for supporting the mission of Project 2 Heal. Together, we can continue to change lives, one service dog at a time. With heartfelt gratitude, Project 2 Heal
