Through our Paws for a Child campaign, Chadlyn will be provided with a life-changing service dog that can offer greater safety, confidence, independence, and peace of mind.

Meet Chadlyn! – A Young Girl Ready for Her “Victory”

At 12 years old, Chadlyn should be worrying about sleepovers, swimming with friends, and the excitement of becoming a teenager.

Instead, she lives with the constant uncertainty of seizures.

Chadlyn is funny, feisty, social, and full of life. She loves Roblox, FaceTiming her friends, spending time with her siblings, and dreaming about the independence most kids her age look forward to. But epilepsy has changed nearly every part of daily life for Chadlyn and her family.

Her seizures can happen with little warning. Her mother, Nikki, lives in a constant state of worry — afraid of Chadlyn being alone, swimming, going places without supervision, or experiencing a seizure away from home. Chadlyn herself sometimes hides when she feels a seizure coming because she does not want to “ruin” special moments for everyone around her.

She has also experienced bullying because of her condition and often feels different from other children her age.

When we asked Chadlyn what receiving a service dog might feel like, she smiled and said:

“Kind of like my mom… but fluffy.”

And when we asked what more independence would mean to her, her answer was simple:

“Victory.”

A service dog for Chadlyn will mean more than companionship. It will provide seizure response and alerts, help her get to safety during an episode, reduce fear and isolation, and give both Chadlyn and her family greater confidence, freedom, and peace of mind.

Most importantly, it will help a little girl feel safer simply being a kid again.

Because these dogs do not just change lives — they change entire families.

Why a Service Dog?

A highly trained service dog will be life-changing for Chadlyn, offering both practical assistance and emotional support. 

These dogs play a crucial role in reducing fear and uncertainty while providing an added layer of safety, seizure response support, increased independence, and peace of mind. Through alert work, response assistance, and ongoing companionship, they help children living with epilepsy feel safer, more confident, and better supported in everyday life.

Despite their tremendous impact, the cost of a fully trained service dog exceeds $30,000 — a significant expense that is not covered by insurance.

When you’re raising a child living with epilepsy, everyday life comes with an underlying layer of uncertainty. That is the reality Nikki and her family navigate each day with their daughter, Chadlyn.

At just 12 years old, Chadlyn is funny, social, full of personality, and looking forward to the independence that comes with becoming a teenager. As a mother, one of the hardest parts is not knowing what the future will hold. While Chadlyn's diagnosis brings challenges, her mother's greatest concern isn't the obstacles themselves—it's making sure her daughter feels supported, loved, and never alone.

Chadlyn's sister Jayden is one of her best friends. Whether it's sharing laughs, late-night conversations, or their favorite "kitchen parties," their bond is unmistakable.

"I’ll meet her downstairs at a random time, like 2 AM, 4 AM, and then we’ll just talk and eat."

Dear Friends,One year ago, we lost a true hero and beloved friend. On June 24, 2023, Samantha’s devoted diabetic alert service dog Moonpie passed away after eight years of service. Today we honor Moonpie’s remarkable life and the unwavering bond she shared with Samantha. This day of remembrance is a tribute and celebration of Moonpie who was a loyal companion, touched many hearts and along with Samantha raised awareness of the incredible impact service dogs have in the lives of those in need. Moonpie dedicated her life to keeping Samantha safe, alerting her to changes in her blood sugar levels. Samantha could always count on Moonpie, which allowed her to lead a life outside of her disability. Moonpie was more than a service dog, she was a guardian, a confidant and a symbol of hope and resilience. The bond they had was a testament to the profound connection that can exist between humans and animals.As we remember Moonpie, we also aim to raise awareness and support for Project 2 Heal, the nonprofit organization that brought Moonpie and Samantha together. Project 2 Heal is dedicated to breeding, nurturing, and training service dogs, giving more people the chance to experience the life-changing support these incredible animals provide. Our mission is to increase the availability of service dogs for veterans, children with special needs, and adults with disabilities. 

We are the only non-profit in the U.S. dedicated to the husbandry and nurturing of world-class Labrador Retriever puppies which are then donated to carefully selected service dog training organizations nationwide.

Helping People in Need Build a New Life
