We have exciting news to share this Thanksgiving season! Prince, our 2024 Giving Tuesday pup, and his veteran partner, Peter Chryst, will officially graduate together on December 14 as a fully trained mobility assistance service dog team.
Over the past year, Prince has been carefully trained to support Peter with essential daily tasks that promote independence and safety. His specialized skills include providing balance support, deep pressure therapy, and helping manage tremors, offering Peter confidence and peace of mind as he navigates daily life.
Through months of dedication, patience, and hard work, Peter and Prince have built an incredible bond rooted in trust, companionship, and shared purpose. Together, they embody the mission of Project 2 Heal, harnessing the healing power of purpose-bred and expertly trained dogs to transform lives. Peter, a proud veteran, has found renewed confidence and emotional balance through this partnership. He shared that having Prince by his side has given him “the tools to struggle well,” helping him face the physical and emotional challenges of Parkinson’s disease and major depressive disorder with hope and resilience.
As we look forward to celebrating their graduation, we want to take a moment to thank you. Your generosity as Healing Pawtners has made this life-changing connection possible. Every step of Prince’s training, every milestone, and every moment of progress between Peter and Prince exists because of your support.
Stay tuned as we continue into Giving Tuesday on December 2. Your support will help us create more stories like Prince and Peter’s in the year ahead.
Some of our P2H pups are taking the next exciting steps in their training journeys.
Moose, Gem, and Roselle are officially heading to Fido’s For Freedom in Maryland. There, they will continue their socialization and skill-building in a new environment, gaining confidence and learning important tasks to prepare them for their future roles as service dogs. Fido’s For Freedom provides a hands-on, supportive training program that will help these pups thrive as they move closer to their life-changing purpose.
Lumi and Taj are on their way to Canines for Service in Wilmington, NC. In this structured and nurturing setting, they will continue to develop specialized skills, practice real-world scenarios, and strengthen the bonds that are essential for their success as service dogs. Canines for Service’s team will guide them through advanced training, preparing them to one day provide independence and support for the people who need them most.
Ali is heading to Sunrise Service Dogs in Colorado Springs, CO. There, they will continue their training in a supportive environment focused on confidence, socialization, and the advanced skills required of a service dog. Sunrise Service Dogs will give Ali opportunities to engage in real-world experiences while building the reliability and focus needed to become a trusted partner for a veteran or individual in need.
Every step our pups take brings them closer to making a life-changing impact. We’re so proud of their progress, and your support makes it possible to celebrate each milestone with them. Stay tuned as we share more of their stories in the future!
Billy, Suki, and Cora had the opportunity to be on cheer squad duty at the Special Olympics NC! These pups brought joy and energy to every corner of the event, from playful puppy visits to heartfelt moments with athletes and volunteers. Their presence added extra smiles, laughter, and love, reminding everyone of the power of connection and the simple happiness a puppy can bring.
Every interaction also helps these pups grow into confident, compassionate service dogs. By practicing socialization, emotional awareness, and positive engagement, they are learning the skills they will one day use to support veterans, children with special needs, and adults with disabilities. It was a day full of wagging tails, warm hearts, and unforgettable moments for all involved.
